What age should kids get a phone?
My kid is still young, 7 yrs old. But I see quite many primary school kids having smartphones! That's much earlier than I expected and planned. I was going to get him one when he goes to secondary school... Is it really necessary? I don't want him to watch too much YouTubes or social media. Is there anyone with kids having phone?
Thx

In Singapore, many parents consider introducing a smartphone to their children around the ages of 10 to 12, often coinciding with the transition to secondary school. Factors such as maturity, responsibility, and the ability to follow rules about usage should be evaluated individually. It’s also important to consider the child's social environment and the necessity for communication, especially in a city with a high level of digital engagement.

Actually above AI response is not too bad. Interesting
I think it depends... if you are working then I think it is ok to give smartphone in primary school, so that you are more connected to your kid. My kids have been using their phone since around P3. However I limit their use of phones during weekends and at night when I am with them - fully let them acknowledge and agree so that they will follow.
You can use Google Family Link app to allow/block any other apps. Also use YouTube kids (if they want to watch random YouTube videos - which is out of control)
Once kids get their phone, there is no turn back…
